Dear Colleague,
The First Conference on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants of Southeast European Countries has been kept in Arandjelovac (FR Yugoslavia) from May 29 till June 2, 2000. The Conference was organised in very good agreement with dir
ections supplied by documents resulted from the meetings on its organisation which were kept in Banja Koviljača in 1998 [1,2]. After the formation of working bodies of the Conference [3], the first circular has been distributed at the end of 1998 to about 1000 addresses [4]. However, because of known reason, Local Organising Committee (LOC) has been forced to delay keeping of the Conference and inform about that all members of its working bodies at the end of June 1999 [5]. Few months later, Organiser successfully restored all necessary pre-conditions for the organisation of that Conference. Subsequently, the second circular has been dispatched in September. Along with that document [6], potential participants were asked to contribute in the workshop operation [7]. Several months later in April, the third circular (including information about the acceptability of submitted abstracts, guidelines for preparation of full papers and posters, final call for registration and hotel accommodation form) has been distributed [8], enabling the Conference to be kept with the total delay of about 8 months, just according to accepted schedule. Conference program was very extensive [9], so we could not have a chance to resume its results in Aranđelovac. Written materials from the First Conference (I CMAPSEEC) consist of to books. The first one [Book of Abstracts from the First Conference on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants of Southeast European Countries (Eds. Sekulović D. and Radanović D., IMPR "Dr. Josif Pančić", Belgrade, 168 pp., Belgrade, May 2000)], contains abstracts of 170 scientific and professional contributions and that book was distributed to the participants at the beginning of the Conference [10]. The second one, distributed during the last week of August [Proceedings of the First Conference on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants of Southeast European Countries (Eds. Sekulović D., Maksimović S. and Kišgeci J., IMPR "Dr. Josif Pančić" and FPAGRI, Belgrade, 667 pp., Belgrade, August 2000)], contains 106 full papers from the Conference [11]. Official report from the Conference, given as foreword to the last mentioned book, contains the most important conclusions from that meeting [12]. However, this report does not contain some important details, whose understanding could be of interest for our further activities. Among them, details dealing with the formation of the Association for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants of Southeast European Countries (AMAPSEEC) [13], and our next Conference (II CMAPSEEC), as well as third and fourth one [14], should be considered as the most important. Few other details are missing too (list and structure of participant's [15,16], analysis of author's contributions [17], financial report [18], etc.).Idea of this CD-edition is to present full spectrum of all relevant data dealing with the first Conference of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants of Southeast European Countries in one place. Containing number of additional data, content of this CD exceeding sum of contents of two mentioned books, which could be useful in preparation of our forthcoming conferences.
