In this work we investigated extract of the aerial parts of Achillea clavenae L. Plant material was collected at Katun Carina on mountain Komovi (Montenegro) in July 1999. The air - dried aerial parts were cut into small pieces and extracted with petrol ether - diethyl ether -methanol (1:1:1) for 48h at room temperature. The concentrated extract was subjected to silica gel dry - flash chromatography, starting elution with petrol ether and gradually increasing polarity of the solvent by addition of Et2O. Three flavonols of quercetagetin type (two trimethylated and one tetramethylated) were isolated using preparative TLC. One of them was identified by 1H NMR, UV/Vis and IR as centaureidin (i.e. 3,6,4'-trimethoxy-5,7,3'-trihydroxyflavone). The identification of the remaining two compounds is in progress.
