The present study has been devoted biological peculiarities and the quantity of some biologically active substances of Hippophae rhamnoides, a rare and protected species in Bulgaria.
The study was conducted from 1991 to 1999. Plants were grown of seeds under conditions of cultivation in the Gorni Lozen Experimental Station of the Institute of Botany, at 576 m a.s.l. near Sofia.
Processes of growth and development, phonological rhythm have been traced of 1 to 10 years old plants. The content of organic acids, fat oils tannins and carotenoids have been studied.
Moderate differences were established between specimens with aspect to height, branching out, forma, size and colour of fruits and leaves as well as of the quantity of biologically active substances.
The results obtained show that H.rhamnoides can be cultivated successfully in Sofia regions.
