Effect of vegetative area on productive traits of the peppermint (variety Mitcham) were observed in the period 1998. and 1999. The two-factorial trail was set up in two planting method (continuous row and 20 cm distance in row) according to randomised complete-block design with four replications in Pančevo location.
Obtained results indicate that continuous row was more reliable for productive traits only in the first year. Significant effects of year and planting method were determined by the analysis of variance for leaf number. Other productive traits did not express significant. The harvest index also varied and such different values could have resulted from the year and planting method x year interaction.
No effect of vegetation area upon the height, number of stems, herb yield, leaf yield and essential oil yield, was found.
