This work gives a survey of administrative system for protection of original medicinal plant species through the measures of legal regulations (laws, decrees and other acts on conservation), permit issues (the combination of administrative and professional methods), as well as the operative implementation of the control over the harvesting and trade in the species from the viewpoint of the supervision.

The estimations and observations of efficiency of the current model for conservation of medicinal plant species that are being utilized from the natural habitats have been made on the basis of the existing inspection service practice in the field of conservation of nature and by the Institute for protection of nature of Serbia, as a professional organization in this field. All these indicate the presence of a very dynamic influential process of the economic, public and social aspects of human activity on natural resources and changes within eco systems and that an active, easily and fast changeable administrative system of protection measures is required.
